Braddigan's Folly is a re-write of the Romantic novel Chet threw away in Betrayed by Her Guardian Angel. Prior to writing this manuscript, I met with an aging lumberjack in the mountains of Central California to question him on logging methods relating to the 1930's. Sitting in this logger's living room with the fifteen-foot crosscut saw and giant logging tongs hanging on the wall, I got a feel for the massive size of the trees these tools were designed to use with. He even showed me sepia-toned photos of a logging train and flume used in the late 1930's.

When I described the heroine of my story - an attractive journalist of the twenty-first century, commissioned to do a feature lay-out on a logging camp using methods from the Depression era - he was able to tell me the hardships she would face during her stay at the logging camp: absence of electricity and indoor plumbing, cold water gravity flow showers, cooking on a pot-bellied stove with no temperature controls, sexual harassment from the crew... When I suggested the possibility of having my heroine ride on a logging train flat car, he helped with the details of that as well.  My imagination did the rest, bringing in an old medicine woman named Ma, a pain-in-the-neck would-be fiance, a killer bear named Boris, and the camp foreman's wolfdog Chinook.  (I don't remember the name of the former logger I consulted with. He was elderly when I met him twenty years ago, so I doubt that he's still around. But I am grateful to him for his input. It helped bring my story to life.)

Braddigan's Folly is my baby. It was my first love as a writer. I was devastated when Chet mistakenly disposed of the original manuscript. But I've been told that the re-write is even better than the original. In the event that you purchase the book, I know you'll enjoy the experience of being transported back in time to a simpler way of life and the romantic clash when the logging boss (Deke) meets the freelance writer (Ember) who has come to his camp without his permission to take photos he doesn't want to have taken, write a story he doesn't want written, give the camp the publicity he's been avoiding since taking over as foreman of Braddigan's Folly, and (if his suspicions are correct) wreck his logging career just as she did his coaching career six years ago.

Romance, humor, intrigue, and excitement: Braddigan's Folly has it all. In the event that you read it, I know you'll enjoy it. I look forward to hearing your feedback.

Braddigan's Folly will soon be available through this site as a pdf download. The cost will be $8.
